Badminton is a popular sport worldwide, with over 339 million people playing it each year. It's the second most popular sport in the world, after soccer. Badminton is a fast-paced racket sport that uses every muscle in the body. It can improve physical and cognitive skills, including: Muscle strength, Flexibility, Balance, Reflexes, Motor coordination.
The Frisco Badminton Academy (FBA) was established in 2017. Over the years, FBA has evolved into a world class indoor facility with 20 premium dedicated badminton courts with Badminton grade high ceiling, adequate lighting and BWF (Badminton World Federation) standard flooring mats.
FBA has been steadily promoting the sport in the region and has spearheaded the popularity of the Sport along with a couple of other clubs in the region to make this the second most prominent hub for Badminton players in United States after California. This has gone a long way in attracting USA Badminton to recognize the region and host more prominent national level championships like Team USA selection events and USA Junior Nationals in Frisco not once but multiple times since FBA’s ground breaking in 2017.
FBA hosts many tournaments for Juniors and Adults and among these is the annual Frisco South Open Region Championship (USAB sanctioned tournament) held in January timeframe. Frisco South ORC has been attracting hundreds of kids across all age groups from all over United States to come and compete with the best in the Country.
With the introduction of High school Badminton, FBA aims to make it possible for kids in different schools to play and compete amongst each other. Kids aspiring to play can go on to play at various levels and even compete at regional level, national level and ultimately compete to play for Team USA at International Tournaments.
Kids who train at FBA have achieved many laurels and recognitions like holding the top seed rankings in different age groups as well as some of the talented kids were selected to play for the United State National Team and represented USA in International tournaments like PAN AM Badminton Championships 2022 and 2023.
The United States National Badminton team represents the United States in international badminton team competitions. The national team is controlled by the national governing body for badminton in the country, USA Badminton.
At the international stage, Badminton is an Olympic sport since 1992 and over the years team USA’s participation is getting stronger. Men’s and women’s singles and doubles have been full-medal events since 1992, while mixed doubles entered in 1996. In seven Olympics with the sport involved, the U.S. has only reached the quarterfinals of any tournament one time.
